Getting Started &
Your Initial Appointment
-
If you are interested in learning more about therapy, shoot me a messageor request a free 15-minute consultation call so I can answer any questions you may have.
-
Sometimes people just don’t vibe. It is best to do a consultation call or at least email to discuss your concerns and make sure I will be the best fit for you. If I am not the best therapist for your needs, I will provide referrals for other therapists who may fit your needs better.
-
No. I am open to conducting consultations via email, provided that prospective client provides sufficient information for both parties to feel at ease working together and scheduling appointments.
-
Before the first session, you will be emailed forms like demographic information, insurance information, consent forms, policies and an intake questionnaire to be completed. All of the forms must be completed prior to the session. This helps us verify your insurance and make sure your clinican is prepared for your session.
-
The first session is all about getting to know each other more. We discuss your history, symptoms, how you are feeling currently, your experiences, relationships, and what you’d like to work on moving forward.
Services, Billing
& Location
-
50 minute individual therapy sessions are provided for individuals dealing with anxiety, stress, life transitions and other issues.
See Services & Information for more information on what common issues are treated.
-
You will be sent a link that allows you to log into your telehealth appointment 15 minutes prior to your appointment. I use Telehealth by Simple Practice for telehealth appointments.
I can only provide virtual sessions to clients located within states I am licensed in. This includes NC, SC, FL, and WI.
-
I accept Aetna and Optum (which includes United Healthcare, UMR, AvMed) and Cigna. I use a billing program, Alma to bill insurance.
Alma will provide you with an estimate of your cost per session which is dependent on your individual insurance plan and the plan’s deductible and/or copay.
-
I offer private pay rates comparable with other therapists with similar experience and background. My sessions are $145 (without insurance). I can offer super-bills for out-of-network plans.
I also offer a limited number of sliding scale appointments for clients with financial constraints. If you are concerned about paying for therapy but would like to discuss options, please send me an email. If you are paying via private pay, you will be provided with a Good Faith Estimate prior to treatment.
-
Item descriptionI offer private pay, with a rate of $145 for follow up sessions. If you have out of network (OON) benefits, I can provide a superbill that you submit to your insurance for reimbursement. A superbill is basically a receipt of your session you can send to the insurance company. Typically, if you have OON benefits, they will reimburse a percentage of the appointment cost. If you are unsure about these benefits, I encourage you to reach out to your insurance provider for more information. Here is a list of questions to ask them to make the process easier:
1. Do I have out of network benefits for mental health? Does that cover telehealth sessions as well?
2. If so, what is my deductible and how much have I met so far this year?
3. Do I need a referral to see an out of network therapist?
4. How many sessions does my plan cover?
5. How do I get reimbursed? How long does it typically take before I am reimbursed?
If don’t have insurance or your insurance isn’t listed above, feel free to message me about other possible payment options.
-
If you are doing private pay, you have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your care will cost. Under the No Surprises Act, healthcare providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.
All patients have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. You can also ask your healthcare provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises
Other Frequently
Asked Questions
-
I have worked with teens for many years and love the challenges they bring to the table. Unfortunately, I am no longer taking new clients under the age of 18.
-
Nope! I cannot prescribe medications. If you are looking for a psychiatrist, let me know and I can provide referrals for you!
-
I do not. At times, my client’s significant other may attend a session or two if it benefits my client’s treatment, helps with a specific issue we’ve been working on or to get a different point of view. This also is true for parents, children, other family members or friends of clients.
-
It can be if that is what you need! When starting therapy, we discuss your goals and what you’d like to get out of it. In your sessions, we have discussions that include education, skill building, processing emotions and more to work towards those goals. That being said, life is life and we might spend a whole session discussing your frustration with that one coworker, your relationship or that one TV show that got you thinking.
-
It depends! After your first session, we will discuss what I believe would be best for your treatment and we can determine the need together.
